New Hero Web Part Option – Carousel

SharePoint’s Hero web part has long been a favourite for creating visually engaging intranet homepages. It’s the perfect way to highlight key content, news, or resources at a glance. Now, Microsoft has added a new and exciting feature that takes this web part to the next level – the Carousel option.

The Carousel layout allows you to display multiple slides in a rotating format, giving your intranet a sleek, modern, and interactive feel. It’s a great way to showcase announcements, promote events, or feature useful links without overwhelming the page design.

Add up to five slides

With the Carousel Hero web part, you can include up to five slides – each one acting as its own “hero” section. This means you can highlight several key pieces of content at once, whether it’s a company update, a new policy, or an upcoming event. Each slide can have its own image, title, and link, giving users an easy way to explore more information with a single click.

Flexible layout options

To match your organisation’s branding and design style, the Carousel comes with three display options:

  • Image Overlay – Perfect for when you want the image to be the main focus, with text elegantly layered on top.
  • Text Block – Ideal for text-heavy announcements or when you want to make a message stand out clearly.
  • Diagonal Split – A dynamic and modern look that blends imagery and text in a stylish layout.

These layouts make it easy to tailor your intranet’s visual design and ensure that featured content always looks clean and professional.

Auto or manual play

You can also control how users experience your Carousel. Choose Auto Play to have the slides automatically rotate at set intervals, which is perfect for keeping your homepage lively and engaging. Alternatively, Manual Play allows users to navigate through the slides at their own pace. This flexibility ensures the feature works well for both fast-moving and more static content environments. Furthermore, when it is in “Auto” mode, the user has can pause the Carousel by hovering over it or by clicking the Pause button, which supports accessibility.

A modern addition to the SharePoint experience

This new Carousel option brings even more creativity and functionality to SharePoint homepages. It’s particularly useful for organisations that want to highlight multiple messages in a single, compact space without cluttering the page. The rotating slides draw attention and encourage interaction, helping ensure that important announcements don’t go unnoticed.

Whether you’re redesigning your intranet homepage or just looking for a fresh way to feature key updates, the new Hero web part Carousel is a welcome enhancement. With its combination of style, flexibility, and ease of use, it’s a simple upgrade that can make a big impact on how your team engages with your intranet.
